An older LG cartridge, still sold for side-by-side refrigerators from the mid-2000s. Stock is thin and the aftermarket share is high.
About this cartridge
The 5231JA2002A body is shorter than the LT600P and uses a narrower collar. Most listings that claim LT600P compatibility are wrong; the two cartridges differ at the neck, which is where leaks start.
Only NSF/ANSI 42 certification is claimed. Genuine LG stock has become intermittent, so most units sold today are third-party. If you buy third-party, look for an NSF 42 mark on the packaging rather than a "compatible with" claim alone.

Which refrigerators it fits
LG has not published a model-level list for this cartridge that we can verify, so we do not publish one either. The number on the cartridge you are removing is the reliable check.

- Turn the old cartridge a quarter turn counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. Keep a towel under it — a few ounces of water will come out.
- Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge and check that the O-rings are seated flat in their grooves.
- Push it in and turn clockwise until it stops. Run two to three gallons through the dispenser to flush carbon fines, then reset the indicator.
