The oldest cartridge still in common use in LG refrigerators. It appears in machines built roughly 2005–2010 and is frequently cross-referenced with Kenmore 9990.
About this cartridge
The part number family 5231JA2006A / 2006B / 2006F covers the same physical cartridge; the letter suffix tracks production revisions, not fit. Kenmore sells it as 9990 or 46-9990 in Kenmore Elite refrigerators built by LG.
Certification is limited to NSF/ANSI 42 for aesthetic reduction. If your refrigerator uses this housing, there is no LG cartridge in the current line-up that adds 53 or 401 in the same form factor — upgrading means a different refrigerator, not a different filter.
Because these units are now 15+ years old, availability of genuine stock is inconsistent and prices swing widely. That is the one case where a certified third-party cartridge is a reasonable choice rather than a compromise.

These part numbers refer to the same physical cartridge. If the number on your old filter is in this list, this is the right replacement.
Often listed as compatible with LT500P. It is not — the LT500P uses the 5231JA2002A body with a different neck length.
Which refrigerators it fits
LG has not published a model-level list for this cartridge that we can verify, so we do not publish one either. The number on the cartridge you are removing is the reliable check.

- Turn the old cartridge a quarter turn counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. Keep a towel under it — a few ounces of water will come out.
- Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge and check that the O-rings are seated flat in their grooves.
- Push it in and turn clockwise until it stops. Run two to three gallons through the dispenser to flush carbon fines, then reset the indicator.
