About this cartridge

MSWF uses the same twist-lock principle as MWF but a shorter body and a different collar. It appears in a narrow band of GE side-by-side models and is frequently mis-sold as an MWF equivalent.

Certified to 42 and 53 at 300 gallons. Availability is lower than MWF, and pricing is correspondingly less competitive — check whether the housing will actually take an MWF before paying a premium.

These part numbers refer to the same physical cartridge. If the number on your old filter is in this list, this is the right replacement.

Do not confuse

Not an MWF substitute. The collar diameters differ.

Which refrigerators it fits

GE has not published a model-level list for this cartridge that we can verify, so we do not publish one either. The number on the cartridge you are removing is the reliable check.

Replacing it

  1. Turn the old cartridge a quarter turn counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. Keep a towel under it — a few ounces of water will come out.
  2. Remove the protective cap from the new cartridge and check that the O-rings are seated flat in their grooves.
  3. Push it in and turn clockwise until it stops. Run two to three gallons through the dispenser to flush carbon fines, then reset the indicator.

Common questions

Does the MSWF fit my GE refrigerator?
The cartridge fits the GE MSWF housing housing. Give us the refrigerator model number and we will confirm it against the housing list.
How often do I need to replace the MSWF?
GE rates it at 6 months or 300 gallons, whichever comes first. High-volume households usually hit the gallon limit before the calendar limit.
Is MSWFP the same filter as MSWF?
Yes. MSWFP all refer to the same physical cartridge. The suffix tracks packaging or retail channel, not fit.
Can I use an aftermarket replacement?
Physically, usually yes — the housing is the same. The difference is certification breadth and seal tolerance. Check that any third-party part carries an NSF 42 or 53 mark, and on chip-equipped housings (GE XWFE, RPWFE, newer Samsung) that it includes a recognition chip.
